Successful people have two beliefs: the future can be better than the present and they have the power to make it happen. We are flying through 2020 and another year is quickly on the horizon. The remainder of this year can still be the best year of your life if you commit to making your dreams and goals a reality. Success isn’t for the faint of heart, but I believe we all have greatness inside of us. It’s up to you to make it happen.
Here Are Five Steps To Get You Going
1. Get Clear Where You Want To Go
If you don’t know where you are going, how do you expect to get there? As you embark on your journey into the remainder of the year, treat it as if you would be heading into a new year with new goals and desires fresh on your mind. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to know exactly what you want. The best way to do this is write your goals down. People who write their goals down are 75% more likely to reach their goals than their non-scribing counterparts. In life and in business 20% of people have 80% of the success because they choose to plan. Fail to plan, plan to fail. It’s really that simple.
2. Take Action
Taking action is the single most important step in making your goals become reality. Remember, the first step is always the hardest one, so take action, some action. Any action is better than no action at all. Don’t fall victim to analysis paralysis. It’s very easy to do and I am guilty as charged at certain points in my life. We read, consume, jot things down, only to find ourselves still consuming yet to take any action and we are 6 months down the road. As we emerge from a post COVID world, things will be different and the definition of “ The new Economy” couldn’t be more true. Do yourself a favor, follow this simple formula to get ahead of the curve: action + results = success. Rinse and repeat.
3. Be Responsible and Accountable
It’s very easy to play victim in your life. It’s more difficult to stand up, accept responsibility and be accountable for where you’re at and why you got there. It’s time to be a change agent in your own life. Take responsibility for your wins and losses and learn to pivot and re direct. If you continue to do the same thing over and over again, you are bound to get the same results. Not to mention, Webster defines that as the definition of insanity. As you partake in the new responsible, accountable you, remember that success is a journey not a destination.
4. Have Grit
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance through the rain. In business and in life you will get knocked down. It’s 20% what happens to you and 80% of how you respond to it. Have you ever heard someone say, “He or She was an overnight success”? There is no such thing! There was a lot of blood sweat and tears that went into that overnight success. That person might see the now, but not the ten years leading up to it of pure grit that it took to be that overnight success. You see, your success lies in your ability to have grit, push forward and never give up no matter what challenge presents itself.
5. Stay Committed and Consistent
Commitment and consistency is key. Did you know that over 75% of people who set New Year’s resolutions fall off the wagon by the end of January? The key is committing to your goals and creating a plan that you do on a daily basis that is going to get you one step closer to your goals. Just think, if you challenge yourself to be just 1% better each day, you will be 365% better by the end of the year. Stay laser focused on your goals. Take committed and consistent action and you are bound to find success crossing your path. Strategic hard work is seldom not rewarded.
2020 has been a rough year with COVID, racial injustice, the political environment and there is definitely no denying that. It’s easy to get sucked into the negative aspects of things we can’t control. Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond. I know, it’s easier said than done, but you too can finish 2020 full speed ahead despite the circumstances.
Remember that to rise above the perils of mediocrity you must hustle and grind your way to your best year ever. You need to take responsibility for where you are and where you want to go. Remember, commit, take action and you will be on your way to a successful 2020 and set yourself up to win in 2021. .
Are you ready for the challenge?
